I thirst, but not as once I did, The vain delights of earth to share; Thy wounds, Emmanuel, all forbid That I should seek my pleasures there. It was the sight of Thy dear cross First weaned my soul from earthly things; And taught me to esteem as dross The mirth of fools, and pomp of kings. I want that grace that springs from Thee, That quickens all things where it flows; And makes a wretched thorn like me Bloom as the myrtle or the rose. Dear fountain of delight unknown! No longer sink beneath the brim, But overflow, and pour me down A living and life-giving stream! For sure, if all the plants that share The notice of Thy Father's eye, None proves less grateful to His care, Or yields Him meaner fruit than I.
~William Cowper~

"Rose from the Brier"
Thou has not that, My child, but thou hast Me;
And am not I alone enough for thee?
I know it all, know how they heart was set
Upon this joy which is not given yet.
And well I know how through the wistful days
Thou walkest all the dear familiar ways
As unregarded as a breath of air;
But there in love and longing, always there.
I know it all; but from they brier shall blow
A rose for others. If it were not so
I would have told thee. Come then say to me:
"My Lord, my love, I am content with Thee."

and so I run...

I know that it has been a long time since I have written anything, so I wanted to put up what has become my favorite quote. To the average person it doesn't make much sense ( "and so I run"), run where from where? In Evidence Not Seen by D.D. Rose she points out that so many have gone on before us, those who have suffered and died for Christ.( Hebrews 12:1) They have run the race and recieved the prize ( 1 Corinthians 9:24). How can I give up? how can I stop running when Christ has paid the price and gives me the strength to run. Others have conquored, heaven is watching...
...and so I run.
"Must I be carried to the skies on flowery beds of ease,
while other sought to win the prize,
or sailed through bloody seas?
Sure I must fight if I would win,
increase my courage Lord!
I'll bear the toil, endure the pain
supported by Thy word."

Morality may keep you out of jail, but it takes the blood of Jesus Christ to keep you out of hell. --C.H. Spurgeon
